WEEK3:Action reference and dynamic analysis

My goal this week is to find the appropriate reference and analyze it

His series of videos have introduced the way of action, and many fancy actions are also worth learning

It is a fast and powerful strike method, which is worth learning

My goal next week is to learn how to animate the interaction between two people

WEEK 1: A new collaborative project on fog, terror and exploration.

At the end of last semester, my partner and I had a new idea to make a more realistic and atmospheric short film with UE4. We also laid a good foundation for cooperation and mutual trust in the previous collaboration. After some small discussions, we decided to make such a project. And our teammates are GUANZE WU, ZHENZHONG LIANG, and YAOZHANG ZHONG.

Our task in the first week is naturally to finalise the preliminary work, such as the finalization of the story, the drawing of the story version and the search for references.

The storyboard:

Our team created a link about the production of preliminary work:https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVO8cHs_Y=/?share_link_id=850618947548

The reference:

A good animated short film must be inseparable from good references. We have found these different references in the film and different conceptual designs, based on our horror theme and Cthulhu culture. Fortunately, there are many references and excellent works in this field, which enable us to carry out our work smoothly.

Next week we will push forward our progress, making models and prophase.

WEEK2:Plot setting, the embodiment of the story

This week is mainly about thinking about the plot of the animation (the rationality of the action) so that animation can be reasonably displayed.

Videos that inspired me

After a series of screenings, I decided to set the theme in the mythical age and chose the two most famous ancient Chinese characters, “Monkey King” and “Nezha”

Next week, I will start to look for reference and action guidance extensively. I will also perform in person to experience the body rhythm of martial arts

WEEK1:Conception of individual project

This semester, I am going to start a personal project of my own, which is tentatively scheduled to be a display of action. This is the part I am most interested in. I am very interested in the law of motion and body mechanics. This semester, I try to do a related pure action display.

The first step is to find suitable materials and models to be used as the carrier for the animation display of the project

Chinese ancient traditional myth

Next week will be the thinking and investigation of the script.

The Animation Film: SHUT DOWN

Personal Works:

This is the first animation short film I completed in the graduate stage, which is due to my excellent team members. Hope everyone will like it.

My role in the team:

Story: Different story scripts were provided, and the current one was selected after everyone’s discussion.

Shooting reference: In the animation link, the shooting reference must be an essential link. With the help of the team members, I completed the first shot design and general action reference shooting.

Thank Gaunze for his cooperation

layout: Next, I built the layout. Based on the previous shooting, I made the first version of the layout. However, from the subsequent development, this time is not complete and can not be called a good layout, because this version only has 15 shots, but in the subsequent animation production, I expanded it to 43 shots, which shows that my layout construction is not qualified, It didn’t play the role of leading the whole project.

only 15 shots now

BK-BD-Spline-Final: The next work is tedious refinement and production. The layout is refined to breakdown, then to smoothing, and then to film, which also undergoes different lens changes.

With the final editing and soundtrack, with everyone’s adjustment and suggestions, we get this young but satisfactory work!

Week9:Finish and complete the animation process

In the last week, I finally completed the production of the whole animation action process. In the animation from the first edition to the second edition to the final edition, I repeatedly changed the lens several times, which is my lack of ability. I should reflect on this. At the same time, I am not perfect in the action, but this is because there is really not enough time to continue to add details

let’s see the final playbast:

In short, I am generally satisfied with this cooperation project. My animation ability has also been greatly exercised, and I have gained a good teammate. At the same time, I also recognize my shortcomings and will make more efforts in the split mirror design in the future

Week8:Imagine the design and finalization of the lens

For a realist, it is a big challenge for me to conceive imaginary content out of thin air, so this week I mainly focused on the depiction of imagination. I planned a total of five different shots, and finally selected three of them

This shot still uses dolly zoom to reflect the sense of weightlessness when people fall from a high altitude.

This shot still uses dolly zoom to reflect the sense of weightlessness when people fall from a high altitude.

I have done this lens many times, including tilting the camera, adding jitter and so on. I am quite satisfied with this version.

Because of time, I will work harder to finish the lens next week, and my team members have been keeping a good progress with me, which is gratifying.

Week7:Add more details to the shot

This week’s work is relatively simple, mainly to continue to add details, movement rules, etc., and continue to conceive fighting and fantasy shots, while my team members continue to work hard to render and debug.

I’ll try to design the fantasy lens next week

Week6:Add shots and change layout

After a few weeks of production, I found that the initial lens could not meet our current needs, so after referring to a large number of films, I decided to make a new version of the layout to make our animation more ornamental.

The old version of layout

It can be seen that a lot of long lenses are used, which makes the picture have no sense of rhythm, flat and cinematic

Reference:

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Django Unchained

After referring to many movies, I made a new version of the layout:

This edition has increased to 29 shots, of which the more troublesome shots are similar to dreams and fantasies, which are still in the process of being conceived. That is really a little difficult for me now, but I will find more references to overcome this situation.
