Week5:Application of Hitchcock zoom in animation lens(dolly zoom)

In the process of making the lens this week, I found that Dolly zoom is very consistent with some effects of this film, so I went to consult relevant materials for reference, and reprinted it in Maya in combination with the lens effects learned last semester. At present, the effect is good.

MY WORK:

At the same time, I continued to refine the lens this week

Week4:First edition layout production

The layout is undoubtedly the first step of the animation. In this step, I will use the existing models and scenes to build an initial short film of position and rhythm, and then refine and process each shot on this basis.

The current version of the model

This week’s work is mainly to build the layout based on the reference shot last week. Of course, I also added some small details to make the animation look a little more vivid. The only bad thing is that the binding of the newspaper is always not perfect, but it can be accepted at present.

By the end of the week, there will be about 15 shots

Week3:Optimize storyboard, shooting reference

Because the early members of our group are still working hard to make characters and maps, my task this week is to finalize the unreasonable parts in the story version. With my suggestion, I took a live-action shooting of the story for reference, which will be very helpful to our follow-up work

The story version is still a little comical. I modified and sorted it, and photographed it for reference. Thanks for Guanze’s cooperation

There are about 10-15 lens designs

Next week I plan to start making my layout, and my team members are constantly accelerating the preliminary work of the production

Week2: Collaboration Unit Project Brief

Team members:

Zhengzhong Liang, Wanxuan Liu, Ziyin Wang, Guanze Wu.

Project: Shut Down (Tentative):

The project is to make a cel-shading near-future sci-fi animation short film.

Cel shading is a type of NPR (Non-photorealistic rendering), which can be also called toon shading. It uses less shading colour instead of a shade gradient or tints and shades in 3D production to flatten the animation graphics and simulate the feeling of 2D animation.

Realistic rendering
cel-shading

Story draft:

In a near future, robots are widely used in people’s daily life. A computer virus explosion leads to a chaotic, which strains the relationship between the oversensitive protagonist and his suspected robot. A misunderstanding drives the protagonist to fight with his suspected robot and died accidentally in this fight. The story finally shows that the robot is not affected by the virus at all.

Key Words: Near-future, Computer Virus, Absurd Story

Task Assignment(Recently):

The process of this project may cover Storyboard, Modeling, Texturing, Rigging, Animation, Lighting and Rendering, Composite and Editing. This task assignment is for reference only, which will be adjusted later based on the progress rate and other requests.

Wanxuan Liu: Storyboard, Editing, Visual effects

Ziyin Wang: Layout, Animation, Composite

Zhengzhong Liang: Modeling, Texturing, Rigging, Lighting and Rendering,

Guanze Wu: Modeling, Texturing, Rigging, Lighting and Rendering

References & Mood Boards & Sketches:

Ideas:

We decide to breakdown the story into three parts: Background and Attempt, Chasing and Fighting, results.

Background and Attempt: We decide to use voiceover like TV news to release the message of a computer virus explosion. We also decide to use a dream sequence to show the protagonist’s horrible imaginations after he heard the news, which strengthens his attempt to get away from his robot or even try to kill it.

Chasing and Fighting: This part can be the most important part of this story. How to design the interactions among characters, robots and props in the scene, and how to exaggerate the dramatic relationship between character and robot is still under discussion.

Result: We decide to end this story with an absurd ending. The character died because of the misunderstanding.

Week1: Intro to the unit and projects

The goal of this week is to establish a team for cooperative projects and have a concept of general direction

TEAM:Our team consists of four people:Zhenzhong Liang,Wanxuan Liu,Guanze Wu,and me,teacher said that we still need a student of other majors. At present, we haven’t found one.

Project:ur project is to make a cel shading near-future sci-fi animation short film. Cel shading is a type of non-PBR rendering, which can be also called toon shading. It uses less shading color instead of a shade gradient or tints and shades in 3D production to flatten the animation graphics and simulate the feeling of 2D animation.

Art reference

This week our group had several meetings discussing about our story draft and tasks for each team member. Everyone in our team wrote a short story based on the near-future scifi background. We discuss each story and finally choose one as our story draft. We then redesigned part of this story and then polished the logic and plot inside of it.

In brief, our story is: In a near-future, robot is widely used in people’s daily life. A computer virus explosion lead to a chaotic, which strained the relationship between the oversensitive protagonist and his suspected robot. A misunderstanding drives the protagonist to fight with his suspected robot, and died accidentally in this fighting. The story finally shows that the robot is not affected by the virus at all.

My responsibilities:The project works can be seperated into several areas: storyboard, modeling, texturing, animation, lighting and rendering, composite and editing, which is a normal pipeline for a 3D animated short film.

I’m good at animation, so I should be responsible for the animation process.

Research Posts :

Topic statement of a critical report

Research Areas: Cultural hybridization plays an important role in the development of commercial animation

Keywords: Cultural hybridization, commercial animation, development history

Does the topic motivate you to research and discover?

I think it will have a far-reaching impact. In the current environment, cultural hybridization and economic globalization are inevitable, and our creation as animators is inseparable from a cultural collision. How to achieve positive cultural hybridization that really plays a role in cultural promotion is what animators should think about at present

How might the research impact present or future theoretical and practical study? Are there potentials to apply new learning?

Certainly, in the future, cultural hybridization will be more intense. How to grasp this degree is the key to doing well in animation. Looking back at Disney’s animation history undoubtedly does not mean that it will not be eliminated only to keep up with the times, and what the audience wants to see is the integration of multi-element culture or re-culturalism creation

Will you be able to fulfil and evidence the outcomes outlined in the assignment?

I intend to make an in-depth analysis of the cultural hybridization between successful and unsuccessful animation works in the past 80 years to get some evidence to support my argument

Audience: who and what is the report for?

My audience is a creative group engaged in commercial animation. I hope my analysis and exploration can help them

Purpose: what do you want them to know?

Let them understand the positive and negative effects of cultural hybridization

Week 9: Phonemes and performance

I learned expression animation and sound processing this week. I’m not very good at it. I can only learn it slowly and it will be better in the future

This week, we smoothed the last BK, but there are still problems with the rhythm. It may be that BK didn’t do well at the beginning, and it will be corrected later
